Who knew flinging frogs could be so popular!!

ORYC have been busy during the Summer, planning and running events alongside planning activities for the new academic year.
Carry on reading to find out more about what we have done, and what we will be doing soon.

On Saturday 3rd August, ORYC alongside Jane Webber from SCWP (Schools Christian Worker Project) attended the Oswestry show to support the Churches Together in Oswestry District (CTOD) tent.

During the course of the day over 300 people stopped to have a go at the frog flinging game and in return received a bookmark asking them if they will Fully Rely On God. It was a long but brilliant day with everyone from 2 - 80+ stopping to have a go and chat abut the youth work in Oswestry. The day was topped off with the CTOD tent being awarded 3rd prize for non agricultural trade stand, with the judges saying that they particularly liked they game and the bookmark that linked it all back to the church.

Matt is already looking towards Oswestry show 2020 and what game/activity can be created for it

Thursday 1st August saw nine young people head into Rhydycroesau woods to spend the evening exploring what we actually need both physically and spiritually.
It was an evening of exploration for the young people as they tried cooking bread on a stick, eggs in oranges and potatoes, as well as carving wooden holding crosses and tying paracord crosses.

Our second summer activity was a social event involving wide games at the Old Hillfort. Although only five young people were able to attend (with many more sending apologies) it was great fun for both young person and volunteer as everyone took part running around the steep slopes!

Matt joined Revd Chris Precious for a second time in hosting an informal games and chat at Kinnerley park. They were joined by a number of families with young children as well as having conversations with young people who came to play football and hangout. There is a hope that through these gatherings our presence will be known in the village making things easier for new ventures.

Don't forget to invite young people and pray for all involved.

Thank You

Please do join us for a time of praise and prayer for the young people in rural Oswestry and the Christian  presence among them.

It would be amazing if you could be please add the following points of praise and prayer to your personal prayers.

  • Thanks for the young people and families that Matt has had contact with over the Summer holidays.
  • Pray that what they have taken away (bookmarks, carved crosses, etc as well as challenging points of discussion) will encourage them to open the door for God.
  • Prayer for everyone returning to school, college, university (including teachers) in the upcoming weeks, and for ORYC's continued presence at the local college.
  • Pray for established groups meeting again after the holidays, especially for new members to join us.
  • For Matt as he continues to explore and discuss the possibilities of new groups, events, and opportunities for the young people.
