Greetings from your Rector, September 2020

Dear friends,
I wanted to share with you some simple moments that have brought me joy.
The first was a moment of peace- a chance encounter as I went to mark the two-minute silence for VJ Day.  A lady came up to me, lets call her M, we had a brief chat then stood- socially distanced- and observed the two minutes silence as the newly repaired church clock rang out at 11am.  Thank you M, your graceful presence helped me to encounter God as we remembered our heroes together.
The second was at Monday night cricket- my little boy absolutely loves cricket- and thankfully he is a far better player than his daddy.  The dedication and selflessness of the coaches and volunteers who run Knockin Cricket Club make our children happy, and that gives me joy.  Thank you.
The third was a moment of hope- looking around at the residents of Vicarage Lane as we celebrated VJ Day together, children playing, neighbours talking- community.  I looked around and thought this is God at work, blessing community in the midst of restrictions.  Community I had been reminded of as people clapped in Knockin for the wonderful Olwen, and community I was reminded of again as I chatted with a young family and we remembered their youngest’s baptism service.  Thank you residents of Vicarage Lane, thank you all those who turned out for Olwen’s guard of honour and thank you young family- you know who you are.
We have had some wonderful weather over the summer.  As a new academic year begins and our schools reopen, I am personally grateful for time spent together as a family.  I’m grateful now for their wonderful and safe local school where they can learn and play with their friends.  For those beginning at new schools, colleges and universities the coronavirus uncertainties have added to an already stressful time.  My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
I invite you during September to savour the moments of joy in your life and leave you with these words of blessing from the Bible- St Paul’s letter to the Romans 15.13: May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Yours in Christ
Revd Chris.
