Greetings from your Rector

When did you last tell someone that you loved them?  The month of February is when we celebrate Valentine’s Day, be it dressing to impress at Kinnerley Parish Hall for the Valentine’s Ball, a candlelit meal at one of our fine local eateries or time spent together over a home-cooked meal.  The joy of Valentine’s Day is that it reminds us to spend time together with our significant other. Yet Valentine’s Day can also be a time when we may be feeling lonely or unloved because we have lost our special someone, or are yet to find them.  Please hear me when I say God is with you in the highs and lows of life, God is love and God loves you.

Relationships are important and the nature of relationships is constantly changing.  There is bad feeling around the Church seeming to judge people who live together before marriage, or who are members of the LGBTQ+ community.  As Rector I carry the burden of the Church’s past both locally and nationally, and can be prejudged by people who have had a bad experience of Church, or hold a bad opinion of what Church represents based on its portrayal in the national press.

The Church is not here to judge, it is here to love as Jesus loved, and to invite people into relationship with our amazing God who loves us all.  The key message of the Gospel is that all are welcome, all are included, non are excluded from the unconditional love of God.  Whether you are living together or apart, whether your partner is the same sex as you or not, whether you do or do not define yourself by gender in any way, God became human in Jesus because God loves you and your local Church is called to love you too.

Towards the end of the month our Ash Wednesday service at Maesbury begins the penitential season of Lent.  On each Wednesday evening in Lent we’ll be running a Lent Course, 7pm at Kinnerley, on Mental Health and the Bible.  It’s called Lifting the Lid, I would love to see you there.

God bless you all

Revd Chris
