Greetings from the Rector
As the nights get darker and the weather gets colder, I realise it will soon be All Hallows Eve, usually abbreviated to Halloween. Traditionally All Hallows Eve is the preparation for feasting the following day, All Hallows Day or All Saints’ Day, a time when the Church honours all the saints.
It’s my first autumn here in the Kinnerley Benefice, and we’ll be hosting a Party of Light on October 31st as a warm and friendly alternative to Halloween trick or treating. We’ll be posting updates about the Party of Light on the Church website and our new Kinnerley benefice Facebook page. There’ll also be posters around the villages telling you more.
This is being run with Matt Barkley from ORYC (Oswestry Rural Youth Church). For those reading who don’t know about Matt and the ORYC, allow me to tell you about them. Matt is a pioneer youth minister, whose mission is to provide 10-18 year olds in our villages with opportunities to meet up, chill and chat and explore life’s bigger questions.
There are eighteen churches in our area, called a deanery, and since there are not eighteen of Matt, he coordinates local volunteers from our churches. If you are aged from 10 to 18, or if your children or grandchildren are, and you want to know more about ORYC and the activities it offers, please contact Matt on firstname.lastname@example.org
The Kinnerley Church family also warmly invite you and yours to our Harvest Lunch on Sunday 6th October at 1pm, as we share the abundance of God’s blessings with our community. Please let us know you are coming on the lists at the back of church or by phoning Diana on 682663 for more details.
Looking ahead to next year and our village fete here in Kinnerley, the fete committee invite all, with an opinion about the future of our fete, to two open meetings at Kinnerley Parish Hall: on Wednesday 16th October at 2pm and 7:30pm. We’re holding afternoon and evening meetings to ensure those with children and those working have opportunities to be heard. If you have opinions about the fete but cannot make the meetings, please email me before the 16th.
Thank you and God bless you all
Morning Prayer: every Wednesday in September, 9am at St Mary's Kinnerley
