Farewell and welcome!
On Sunday 7th July the congregations of the Anglican Benefice gathered in St Mary’s Church Kinnerley to say goodbye to Revd Andy Smith and Revd Adam Gompertz. This could have been a very sad occasion but Andy’s sense of humour and Adam’s wit ensured there were plenty of laughs and smiles too. We shall miss them both very much.
Adam has been our Curate for three years and in this time has livened up our services immensely. He has brought us his unique mixture of humour and love, along with a lively and modern outlook. No one who was at the Christingle service in Knockin last December will forget it. We know God will do great things through Adam in his new ministry with REVS.
Andy was assigned to take care of us in the period between Helen leaving and Chris coming and has been our Interim Rector for exactly a year; he has certainly fulfilled his brief. His approachable manner and ready smile have warmed our hearts and assured us that we were cared for during what could have been a trying time. We thank Andy for raising our awareness and sharing with us his concern for justice in the world and caring for our planet.
Andy and Adam, may God bless you both; go with our love and our thanks.
The very next day was a time of great celebration and the Benefice was back in force in St Mary’s Kinnerley to welcome Revd Chris Precious at his Institution and Induction as our new Rector. We were also pleased to welcome the Rt Revd Sarah Bullock, Bishop of Shrewsbury, on only her 5th day in her new post. Chris was supported by many members of the local clergy as well as friends old and new and family, and it was good to see them all. We are so pleased that Chris, Laura and their young family have joined us and we wish them a long and happy time here.
Both these events were followed by delicious refreshments and our thanks go to all involved.
