December Message

Happy Advent all!

By the time you read this, I am guessing that most of you will already be Christmas-decorated, and you’re planning for the festivities, if not already enjoying Christmas meals with colleagues or friends. Ads have bombarded us for weeks about all that we can give materially and great sections of shops have been dedicated to far more than we could eat or sensibly afford and far, far too much to drink.

Its also the time of year that some who used to go to church start to think about church again, at least for the special services we enjoy; Carols by Candlelight, Christingles, Crib services and Midnight Communion on Christmas Eve.

All tell the extraordinary story of our Creator God, seeing a world in distress and instead of giving us more rules, comes himself to show us a better way of living and sharing together, ultimately, of course, at massive cost to himself! And the story begins with an unmarried mum, her baby, an innkeeper and a smelly stable in the back of beyond, in a little, occupied country on the edge of a mighty empire. Hardly a promising start!

Come and share, and sing, and wonder again at any (or all!) of our Christmas services, at any of our churches! And you are always welcome to come and share with us at our usual services, not just this month. Remember, Christ is for life, not just for Christmas!

God bless, and I look forward to seeing you there.

PS By the way, it’s great to celebrate the season in other ways, too! So enjoy!
