St Peter's Church, Melverley

A great many people from all over the world have visited the church this year to enjoy its  history,  peace and relevance as a place of worship.
Thank you to those who have signed the visitor’s book and left thoughtful and complementary comments. We try our best to keep the church in good order, with fresh flowers and tidy grounds. It is though a country church so we expect some long grass and weeds outside, the occasional muddy footprints on the carpet and a church mouse inside!

Events
19th March  - A successful charity Lent Lunch took place on 19th March. A total of £100 was raised for our charity African Village Support.
28th March - Everyone enjoyed the first ‘Indoor Kurling’ evening, which took place in the Village Hall. Competition was quite intense at times but great fun.
8th  May - The Orthopaedic Male Voice Choir sang at our annual concert. It was an excellent evening with a packed audience, some enjoying the music from the church balcony. The concert was followed by a cheese and wine buffet.

Special times
We have also enjoyed two baptisms this year and the wedding of Laura Hildich and James Lescott on 20th June.

A day out
18th July - A group visit arranged through a friend turned out to be a full day at Melverley on Saturday 18th July.  Twenty eight people of all ages from St Mary and St Leonard’s church Wombridge, Telford, along with their vicar Revd Kevin, made a day of it! Firstly, coffee and a wander around the church, followed by a history of Melverley church given by the church warden. The whole group then enjoyed a two course lunch at the village Hall. Finally back to church for a short service led by curate Mia Smith. A great day was enjoyed by all especially the two 90 year old members of the group who said “It was so perfect we wanted it to last forever.”

Why don’t you book a similar day out with your church or group?

10-13th September- National Heritage Days.
Over 90 people visited the church during the weekend as part of the ‘churches trail’ in conjunction with ‘Oswestry town and beyond’.
